Fiorinal Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Butalbital is in a class of drugs known as barbiturates that slow down your central nervous system and may cause relaxation. Butalbital belongs to the group of medicines called barbiturates . Barbiturates act in the central nervous system (CNS) to produce their effects.

Fiorinal Dosage

• One or 2 capsules every 4 hours.
• Total daily dosage should not exceed 6 capsules.
• Extended and repeated use of this product is not recommended because of the potential for physical dependence.

Side Effects of Fiorinal

• bone tendernes
• changes in behavior, mood, or mental ability
• difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
• eye problems, very small or enlarged centers to the eyes
• fever, sore throat
• hallucinations
• skin rash, itching, hives
• slow or fast heartbeat
• swelling of the face or lips
• unusual bleeding or bruising, pinpoint red spots on the skin
• unusual tiredness or weakness
• nausea or vomiting
• trembling

Warnings and precautions before taking Fiorinal:

• Fiorinal may make you drowsy or less alert; therefore, you should not drive or operate dangerous machinery or participate in any hazardous activity that requires full mental alertness until you know your response to this drug.
• Be especially careful with Fiorinal if you are an older person or in a weakened condition, if you have any kidney, liver, or intestinal problems or an enlarged prostate gland, or if you have had a head injury.
• Also be cautious if you have a thyroid problem, blood clotting difficulties, or a urinary disorder.
• Before taking this medication, tell your doctor if you have

  • fluid retention

Decreased effect:

• Anticholinesterases effects are antagonized
• Decreased corticosteroid effects by rifampin, barbiturates, and hydantoins
• Decreased salicylate levels

Overdose

Symptoms of an aspirin/butalbital/caffeine overdose include slow breathing, seizures, dizziness, weakness, loss of consciousness, coma, confusion, tiredness, cold and clammy skin, fast heartbeat, small pupils, nausea, vomiting, ringing in your ears, and sweating.
