Femring Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Femring is the first vaginal estrogen product indicated to treat both the hot flushes and vaginal symptoms associated with menopause. It will offer women effective, convenient and easy-to-use symptom control, with a steady three-month supply of estradiol in just one dose.

Femring Dosage

• Two doses of Femring available: 0.05 milligrams a day and 0.10 milligrams a day.

Uses of Femring

• Estradiol is used to treat symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes and dryness, burning, and irritation in the vaginal area.
• Estradiol may also be used to treat other medical conditions those are listed in this medication guide.

Side Effects of Femring

• Chest pain or heavy feeling, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder, nausea, sweating, general ill feeling;
• sudden numbness or weakness, especially on one side of the body;
• sudden headache, confusion, problems with vision, speech, or balance;
• pain or swelling in your lower leg;
• abnormal vaginal bleeding;
• pain, swelling, or tenderness in your stomach;
• a lump in your breast.
• nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite;
• swollen breasts;
• migraine headaches or dizziness;
• vaginal pain, dryness, or discomfort;
• swelling of your ankles or feet;
• depression; or
• changes in your menstrual periods, break-through bleeding.

Warnings and precautions before taking Femring:

• If you are using estrogen, then it may also increase your chances of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, heart attack, stroke, blood clots, and gallbladder disease.
• Your doctor may also prescribe a drug containing the hormone progesterone while you are using Femring.
• Combining estrogen and progesterone reduces the risk of endometrial cancer caused by estrogen alone.
• This combination is not recommended for women who have had a hysterectomy (removal of the uterus), since they are not at risk for endometrial cancer.
• Combining estrogen and progesterone could increase the risk of breast cancer, raise cholesterol levels, and cause blood sugar problems.
• This drug may cause a patchy darkening of the skin on the face (melasma).
• Sunlight may intensify this darkening and you may need to avoidprolonged sun exposure and sunlamps.
• Consult your doctor regarding use of sunscreens and protective clothing.

Drug Interaction:-

If you are taking Femring with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Femring with the following:

• Carbamazepine
• Erythromycin
• Itraconazole
• Ketoconazole
• Phenobarbital
• Rifampin

Overdose

After taken Femring if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Symptoms of Femring overdose may include:

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Withdrawal bleeding
