Feldene Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Feldene is the brand name for the drug piroxicam. Piroxicam belongs to the NSAID (Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) class of medications. It helps relieves pain and inflammation associated with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Generic piroxicam capsules are available.

Feldene Dosage

• The usual dose is 20 milligrams a day in one dose.
• Your doctor may want you to divide this dose into smaller ones.
• You will not feel Feldene's full effects for 7 to 12 days, although some relief of symptoms will start to occur soon after you take the medication.
• The safety and effectiveness of Feldene have not been established in children.

Uses of Feldene

• Feldene treats the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and ankylosing spondylitis.
• Although Feldene can relieve the symptoms of pain and inflammation, it will not cure your condition.

Side Effects of Feldene

• Heartburn or indigestion (dyspepsia)
• Swelling
• Stomach pain
• Diarrhea
• Elevated liver enzymes
• Gas
• Unexplained bleeding
• Ulcer in the stomach or intestines (peptic ulcer)
• Anemia
• Nausea
• Dizziness
• Headache
• Tiredness or weakness
• Unexplained rash
• Itching
• Ringing in the ears (tinnitus).

Warnings and precautions before taking Feldene:

• If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
• If you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
• If you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
• This medication should not be used if you have certain medical conditions.
• Before using this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: severe kidney disease, aspirin-sensitive asthma (a history of worsening breathing with runny/stuffy nose after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs), recent heart bypass surgery (CABG).

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Feldene with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Feldene with the following:

• Anticoagulants
• Blood pressure
• Prinivil, and Zestril
• Furosemide
• Lithium
• Methotrexate

Overdose

After taken Feldene if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Symptoms of Feldene overdose may include:

• Drowsiness
• Nausea
• Stomach pain
• Vomiting
