Felbatol Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Felbatol is a very powerful antiepileptic medicine used to treat a broad variety of seizure and seizure syndrome types. Felbatol has also been known to cause fatal cases of liver failure.

Felbatol Dosage

• Felbatol is available in 400mg yellow and 600mg peach-colored scored tablets. Suspension is also available.
• In adults, the usual dose has been between 2400mg and 3600mg per day.
• If you are not having side effects and are still having seizures, your doctor may consider a higher dose.

Uses of Felbatol

• Felbamate is usually used only after other antiepileptic medicines have failed to control seizures.
• Felbamate may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

Side Effects of Felbatol

• Many people who take Felbatol don't report any unwanted side effects.
• Those who experience undesirable effects most often complain of:
• decreased appetite and weight loss
• nausea
• insomnia (sleeplessness)
• headache
• poor coordination or tremor (shaking)
• vision problems
• dizziness
• vomiting
• mood changes or anxiety
• sleepiness (when given in combination with other seizure medicines)

Warnings and precautions before taking Felbatol:

• If you are using felbatol, then it may cause blood disorders and liver problems. So you should be used this medicine with extra caution.
• Before taking felbamate, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to meprobamate; or if you have any other allergies.
• You should stop using this drug immediately and also notify your doctor if you have symptoms of infection such as fever, chills, weakness, dark urine, or persistent stomach/abdominal pain.
• Do not stop taking felbamate without first checking with your doctor . Your doctor may want you to gradually reduce the amount you are taking before stopping completely. Stopping the medicine suddenly may cause your seizures to return or to occur more often.

Drug Interaction :-

If you are taking Felbatol with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Felbatol with other epilepsy drugs, such

• phenobarbital
• phenytoin
• sevelamer
• valproic acid
