Exelon Medication - Uses & Side Effects

An anti-Alzheimer's medication that is showing great promise in the treatment and prevention of Alzheimer's, Exelon is sometimes used to counter the most severe memory and concentration problems caused by other psychiatric medications. So by boosting levels of the chemical messenger acetylcholine, Exelon can temporarily improve brain function in some Alzheimer's sufferers.

Exelon Dosage

• The dose of rivastigmine will be different for different patients. 
• The starting dose is 1.5 mg twice a day. If this dose is well tolerated after a minimum of two weeks of treatment, the dose may be increased to 3 mg twice a day.
• Subsequent increases to 4.5 mg and then 6 mg twice a day should also be based on good tolerability of the current dose and may be considered after a minimum of two weeks of treatment at that dose level.

Side Effects of Exelon

• Abdominal Pain with Cramps, Anorexia, Constipation, Depression, Diarrhea, Disorder of the Digestive System, Dizziness, Dyspepsia, Fatigue, Flatulence, Hallucinations, Headache Disorder, Impaired Cognition, Malaise, Nausea, Vomiting, Tremor, Anxiety, Bradycardia, Drowsiness, Fainting, General Weakness, Hyperhidrosis, Hypertension, Insomnia, Rhinitis, Weight Loss.

Warnings and precautions before taking Exelon:

• If you are taking Exelon, then it may causes nausea and vomiting. You should tell your doctor immediately if these side effects occur.
• Exelon is not intended for women of child-bearing age, and its effects during pregnancy and breastfeeding have not been studied.
• Exelon may also aggravate asthma and other breathing problems and can increase the risk of seizures.
• You should be contact your doctor if any of these problems occur.

Drug Interaction :-

• If you are taking Exelon with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Exelon with the following:
• Bethanechol
• Drugs that control spasms

Overdose

Symptoms of Exelon overdose may include: Collapse, convulsions, breathing difficulty, extreme muscle weakness (possibly ending in death if breathing muscles are affected), low blood pressure, salivation, severe nausea, slow heartbeat, sweating, vomiting.
