Elidel Medication - Uses & Side Effects

Elidel is the first steroid-free prescription cream for the treatment of eczema patients as young as two years old. It is approved for the short-term and intermittent long-term treatment of mild to moderate eczema in non-immunocompromised patients, for whom conventional therapies are inadvisable because of potential risks, inadequate response, or intolerance. Science ELIDEL contains no steroids so it is effective to treat people with mild or moderate eczema.

Elidel Dosage

For adults and children over 2 years, then you should be applied a thin layer of Elidel to the affected area 2 times a day.

Uses of Elidel

• Elidel is a drug used to treat eczema and other skin conditions.
• It is an immunosuppressant, which means that it lowers the body's normal immune response to disease and cancer.

Side Effects of Elidel

• Mild burning or irritation at the application site may occur during the first few days of treatment.
• Headache may also occur. If any of these effects happen notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
• The most common side effects of Elidel are a feeling of warmth or burning where the cream was applied, headache, cold-like symptoms such as stuffy nose, sore throat, and cough, and, infrequently, viral skin infection.
• It has also been cited by the FDA as a possible cancer risk.

Warnings and precautions before taking Elidel

• Avoid sunlight and sun lamps, tanning beds, and treatment with UVA or UVB light.
• If you need to go outside after applying Elidel then try to wear loose fitting clothing that protects the treated area from the sun.
• In addition, ask your doctor what other type of protection from the sun you should use.
• Avoid use of Elidel and Protopic in children younger than 2 years of age.
• The effect of Elidel and Protopic on the developing immune system in infants and children is not known.
• In clinical studies, infants and children younger than 2 years old treated with Elidel had a higher rate of upper respiratory infections than did those treated with placebo cream.
• Before using Elidel, tells your doctor if you are taking oral or injectable tacrolimus, cyclosporine, mycophenolate mofetil, azathioprine, sirolimus, or another immunosuppressant medication.

Drug Interaction:-

• If you are taking Elidel with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Elidel with the following drugs can be give the best result: Cimetidine ,Erythromycin Fluconazole, Itraconazole, Ketoconazole

Overdose

Symptoms of an Elidel overdose are not known. But after taken Elidel if you feel that overdose is suspected, then you should contact with your doctor immediately. Because it will may lead to another serious effect.
