Home Remedies for Sore throat

  1. Gargle with kheel of alum 2 gms mixed in half a glass of warm water. (Grind alum and heat in an iron vessel. When the part touching the pan becomes watery, minimise the heat and with a knife turn the alum over to heat the other side. When this part too becomes watery, turn the flame off and grind the residue into powder.) This cures swelling and throat pain.
  2. You could also gargle with disprin and warm water.
  3. Boil 10 gms of Sprague (Latin name, Trachyspermum ammi) in 500 gms of water for 15 minutes. Let it cool, then add two pinches of salt and gargle twice a day. This clears excessive mucous.
  4. Grind and mix dry fruit of emblica and lquorice in equal amounts.  Take one teaspoonful twice a day, in the morning and evening for two weeks. In this mixture if equivalent amount of sugar candy is added and six grams of the mixture is taken with 250 gms of milk, it cures sore throat.
  5. For throat pain, mix dry coriander and sugar in equal amounts and chew one teaspoonful of it twice or thrice a day.
