Home Remedies for Nail Problems

  1. Brittle nails are a common problem. Nails fragment at the end with the slightest trauma. The major causes are iron deficiency, anaemia and poor circulation. The concave shape of nails is due to iron deficiency. Iron should be given in adequate amounts to such people.
  2. Do not immerse your nails for a long time in any high alkaline content such as soda-bicarb.
  3. Nails should be protected from dyes because they take on the colour of dyes.
  4. Nails of tobacco smokers get discoloured. Avoid tobacco.
  5. Constantly immersing the hands in dishwater and detergent cleaning solutions can cause irritation that may lead to a chronic infection of the sides of the nails. Wear rubber gl9ves and cotton gloves to absorb sweat.
  6. Toenails should be trimmed short and cut straight and not curved. Injury, incorrect nail cutting and ill-fitting shoes can cause small fragments or the toenails to separate at the edges and grow into the skin.
