Home Remedies for Ear Piercing

  1. This may be done with a metal wire having a pointed edge, preferably made of 22-carat gold. The person piercing the ear, if not a goldsmith, should still be adept at his work. There should be no oozing of blood.
  2. After piercing, mustard oil and turmeric should be applied on the hole for a few days regularly for proper and speedy healing.
  3. Avoid ear piercing during winters and monsoons, as wound healing is delayed and infections are more likely.
  4. The wire should be rotated everyday and the earlobe should be dabbed with the above oil.
  5. These gold wires should be worn constantly for a month or more so that the hole may not close.
  6. Some women are allergic to nickel, normally present in gold, which causes itching. Switching to 22-karat gold solves this allergy problem.
  7. Some develop infection after piercing. Cleaning of the area is essential, but not with water.
  8. Some women develop keloids (hard, thick scars), which occur after the earlobe has healed. Such women may have a history of nodular scars after surgeries. They should avoid skin piercing, if possible.
