Abortion or medical termination of pregnancy is a procedure undergone by females not wanting a child. After an abortion one should take care of certain things:

1. Nothing should be inserted into the vagina for two to three weeks because of the danger of infection.
2. Swimming, horse riding, running, jogging, cycling, climbing stairs, carrying heavy weights, bending while cleaning the floor, intercourse and other strenuous activities should be avoided because they could cause bleeding.
3. Medicine should be taken because without that the uterus will not contract and bleeding may not stop.
4. Check your temperature for a few days to rule out fever and infection. If the temperature is above 100 degree C report to the doctor.
5. If there is discharge from the breasts do not squeeze them because squeezing will lead to more milk formation. Apply ice packs on the breast.
6. Birth control pills can be started on the night of abortion if this method is used for contraception by the couple.
7. Walk leisurely in a quiet place.
8. Get as much sleep as your body needs.
9. Eat a nourishing-diet, complete in all vitamins and minerals.
